In the moat general sense, the passing of a thing from one person to another, whether by feoffment, bargain and sale, gift or lease; in a stricter sense, a species of common-law conveyance, appropriate to the transfer of incorporeal hereditaments, and of estates in expectancy, of which no livery can be made.
