Linea

I In civil and old English law. A line; a series of persons descending from a common stock. Linea recta: the right line; the direct line; a line of persons in which the one is descended mediately or immediately from the other; — semper prajfertnr trans- Tersali: the right line is always preferred to the collateral. Linea transversalis: tlje transverse or cross line; a line crossing the right or perpendicular line. In the civil law. Linea obliqna: the oblique line, — more commonly termed linea transversalis, q. v.
