I. A country; one's country.
In old English law
A district or neighborhood, within a county; the country; a neighborhood; a hundred; a jury. Patria laboribns •et expensls non debet fatigari: a juiy ought not to be harassed. by labors and expenses. In the Roman law. Patria potestas: the paternal power; the power of a father, which anciently included that of life and death.
