In old English law
To gage; to wage; to give security. Vadiare duellum: to wage the duellum; to wage battel; to give pledges mutually for engaging in the trial by combat Vadiare legem: to wage law; to give security to make one's law at a day assigned. Vadiata leg's, habebit diem ad facicndam legem: law being waged, he shall have a day to make law.
