A man authorized to declare the law. Anciently the particular citizen of a Scanpublic assemblies, etc., and the guardian of the law, president both of the legislative bench and of the law courts. The president of the supreme court of Orkney and Shetland while the islands remained under Norse rule. Cent. Diet. LAWND or LOUND. Synonymous with fry the (q. v.).
