Purgation by oath. Leg. H. 1. who settled in Gaul in the fifth centiiry. It is the oldest of the barbarian codes,! being said to have been framed about A. D. 422. The most celebrated provision of this code, one excluding females from inheritance, is often referred to alone as the Salic law. According to Spelman, many provisions of tha laws of Henry I. were taken from this source.
