A thing stolen, in the hands of the thief. At common law, when a thief was taken " with the mainour." that is, with the thilng stolen inmanu, in his hand, he might be brought into court, arraigned and tried without indictment. "Mainour " also designated the article itself -which was stolen." The practice was abolished in the reign of Edward the Third.'
