North Dakota

One of the states of the United States. By the act of congress of February 22, 1889 (1 Supp. Rev. Stat. 645), the area comprising the territory of Dakota was divided on the line of the seventh standard parallel produced due west to the western boundary of said territory, and that portion north of said parallel forms the state of North Dakota. The proclamation announcing the admission of this state into the Union was made by the President on November 2, 1889. The constitution was amended, 1912, providing for initiative, referendum and recall.
