Opposer

In old English law. An officer in the court of exchequer. Upposita Juxta se posita magi.s elucescnnt, I. Opposite things when placed near each other (in juxtaposition) appear in a clearer light. Optima est lex qnge minimun relinqnit arbitrio Jiidlcis, optimus judex qui minimum slbi, I. That law is the best which leaves least to the discretion of the judge; that judge is the best who leaves least to his own. Optima statuti interpretatrix est (omnibus particulis ejnsdem inspectis) ipsum statutum: the best interpreter of a statute is (all its parts being considered) the statute itself.

In the civil law. Optima est legum interpres consuetude: custom is the best interpreter of laws. v. Optimus interpres, etc.
