A marriage by the parents of bastard children whereat they formally adopted the children.

In old English law. An ancient custom, where chlidren were born out of wedlock, and their parents afterwards intermarried. The children, together with the father and mother, stood under a cloth extended while the marriage was solemnized. It was in the nature of adoption. The children were legitimate by the civll, but not by the common, law. Jacob.
