In civil law. One who murders his father; one who murders his mother, his brother, his sister, or his children. Merlin, Repert.; Dig. 48. 9. 1. 3,4. The common law does not define the crime and makes no difference in punishment between it and other murders. 1 Hale, P. C. 380. In colloquial use, the term is applied according to its derivative, rather than its civil-law meaning, to the slayer of a father only.
