Proprietary

adj. Belonging to an individual; private; considered as property; owned. Proprietary articles. In the United States internal revenue laws, are goods Proprietary chapel. A chapel or place of worship built and maintained by a private person and as private property; not, however, for his individual use or that of his family, but for public assemblies; yet not freely dedicated to public use, but conducted for the owner's profit. This expression is used by Blackstone to denote governments granted out by the crown to individuals, in the nature of feudatory principalities, with inferior regalities and subordinate powers of legislation, such as formerly belonged to the owners of counties palatine. 1 Bl.
