The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary

He who represents or stands in the place of another vidth respect to his real property is so termed, in contradistinction to him who stands in the place of another with regard to his personal property, and who is termed the "personal representative." Thus, the heir is the real representative of his deceased ancestor, and the executor or administrator is the personal representative.
