Requisition

The act of demanding a thing to be done by virtue of some right. The demand made by the governor of one state on the governor of another for a fugitive from justice. The term "requisition" is sometimes used to denote the surrender of fugitives from one state to another; "extradition" being confined to surrender of fugitives by a foreign country. When, as is more common, "extradition" is used to embrace both interstate and international extradition, "requisition" is applied to the formal request of the governor for the surrender, and not to the other proceedings.

In international law. The formal demand by one government upon another, or by the governor' of one of the United States upon the governor of a sister state, of the surrender of a fugitive criminal.

In Scotch law. A demand made by a creditor that a debt be paid or an obligation fulfilled. Bell.

The term is applied to a request preferred by a governor of one state to that of another, for the extradition of a fugitive from justice; to a written statement, furnished by oi Ecers charged with serving out supplies in the government service, to those charged with custody of them in store, of the quantities of rations, clothing, stationery, lumber, materials, &o., they will require in the discharge of their duties for some limited time to come; to similar official requests for supreformed codes of procedare, that the sheriff seize and deliver to plaintiff the goods for which the action is brought; and to some other official demands.
