A French word which signifies "nothing." It has generally this meaning; as, rien en wnrere; rien passe per le fait, nothing passes by the deed; rien per descent, nothing by descent. It sometimes signifies not, as, rien culpable, not guilty. Doct. Plac. 435. RIEN GULP (Law Pr.)

In pleading. A plea which alleges that there is nothing remaining due and unpaid of the plaintiff's demand. It is a good plea, and raises the general issue in an action for rent. 2 Wm. In pleading. A plea which avoids the effect of a deed, where its execution cannot be denied, by asserting that nothing passed thereby; for example, an allegation that the acknowledgment was before a court which had not jurisdiction.

Nothing. Rien arrere or en arrere. Nothing back. A plea denying that rent is due. Rien per descent. Nothing by inheritance; no assets by descent. the minister were without information that the offer of a reward had been revoked. The claimant died pendente lite. He had been paid $10,000 for the information as to the identity of Surrat, but later filed a petition in the court of claims to recover 816,000, the balance. he alleged to be due him on account of the " apprehension." 1 Pierson v.
