Sale notes

A memorandum given by a broker to a seller or buyer of goods, stating the fact that certain goods have been sold by him on account of a perso;n called the "seller" to another person called the "buyer." Sale notes are also called "bought and sold notes." See "Bought Note." SALFORD HUNDRED COURT OF RECord. An inferior and local court of record having jurisdiction in personal actions, where the debt or damage sought to be recovered does not exceed £50, if the cause of action arise within the Hundred of Salford. St. 31 & 32 Vict. c. 130; 2 Exch. 346, See "Hundred." SALIQUE (or SALIC) LAW. The name of a code of laws, so called from the Salians, a people of Germany who settled in Gaul under their king Pharamond. The most remarkable law of this code, which is sometimes itself called the Salic law, is that which regards succession. De terra vera salica nulla portio haereditatis transit in viulierem, sed hoc virilis sextus aequirit; hoc est, filii in ipsa haereditate succedunt, no part of the salique land passes to females, but the males alone are capable of taking; that is, the sons succeed to the inheritance. This has ever excluded females from the throne of France.
