A term used to signify statutes establishing the process of adjusting the difference in value between depreciated paper money and specie. Such statutes were rendered necessary by the depreciation of paper money necessarily following the establishment of American independence. And, more recently, to discharge those debts which were made payable in Confederate money. The statutes are now obsolete. ! i
