Benjamin Vaughan Abbott · 1879
A conveyance of such a nature as pre-supposes some other conveyance precedent, and which only serves to alter, confirm, enlarge, restrain, restore, or transfer the interest granted by such original conveyance, is sometimes distinguished as secondary. Thus an assignment of a lease may be considered a secondary conveyance, with respect to the lease itself. See Original Conveyance; Primary Conveyance. The secondary conveyances are otherwise called derivative, and are: releases, confirmations, surrenders, assignments, and defeasances.
