Buying or selling any office in the gift of the crown, or making any negotiation relating thereto, was deemed a misdemeanor under stats. 5 & 6 Edw. VI. c. 16, and 49 Geo. III. c. 126, 2 Steph. Com., 11th ed. 661. SEMBLE (Fr. it seems). A term frequently used before the statement of a point of law which has not been directly settled, but about which the court have expressed an opinion and intimated what a decision would be.
