Laws suspending remedies against debtors. They are adopted during periods of financial distress or depression. There were numerous instances in acts passed by the legislatures of the American states which had been in rebellion against the Union during the few years which ensued after the war of the rebellion had closed. Adoption of similar measures of relief was practiced by a number of governments during the World War.
