Alienatio

I., Alienation. The transfer of ownership, conveyance. Alienatio licet probibeatur, consensu tamen omnium in quorum favorem prohibita est, potest fieri: though alienation be forbidden, yet it may be made with the consent of all those for whose benefit it is forbidden. Alienatio rei praefertur juri acorescendi (alienation of property is preferred to the right of survivorship): the law favors a conveyance made in the owner's lifetime, rather than allow the property to descend or accumulate.
