Glossary of Technical Terms, Phrases, and Maxims of the Common Law

A feudal estate granted to a lord or great personage with the right to hold a court-baron. It consisted of terrse tenementales, bocland, lands held of the manor in freehold; and the demesne lands, terras dominicales, reserved for the lord's own use; which again were divided into lands held by tenants in copyhold {/olcland), lands held by the lord for his own use, and the lord's ■waste, used for pasture and common.
