A demonstrative word referring particularly to what is present or near in place, time, or thought, or to something just mentioned or about to be mentioned. 248 III. 144. THIS DAY SIX MONTHS (or THREE months). Fixing "this day six months or three months" for the next stage of a bill is one of the modes in which the house of lords and the house of commons reject bills of which they disapprove. A bill rejected in this manner cannot be reintroduced in the same session.

When referring to different things before expressed, “this” refers to the thing last mentioned, and “that” to the tiling first mentioned. Russell v. Kennedy, 66 Pa. 251. It is a simple word of relation and its ordinary grammatical meaning will not be extended so as to include something else than that to which it relates. 14 Q. B. D. 720.
