internal controls

"internal controls" means a process, effected by an entity's management and other personnel, designed to provide reasonable assurance regarding the achievement of objectives in the following categories:
(A) Effectiveness and efficiency of operations.1
(B) Reliability of financial reporting.1
(C) Compliance with applicable laws and regulations;

“internal controls” means the plan of organization and methods and procedures adopted by management to ensure that—
(A) resource use is consistent with laws, regulations, and policies;
(B) resources are safeguarded against waste, loss, and misuse; and
(C) reliable data are obtained, maintained, and fairly disclosed in reports.
