Brooklyn Law School

Brooklyn Law School is a private law school located in New York City that was founded in 1901. The institution currently enrolls approximately 1,100 students and maintains a faculty of 60 full-time professors along with emeriti and adjunct instructors.

The school traces its origins to the Pratt Institute's Department of Commerce in the 1890s. When this department became overwhelmingly popular, it separated to form its own institution under Norman P. Heffley's guidance. In 1901, William Payson Richardson and Heffley reorganized this school into Brooklyn Law School, the first law school on Long Island. The law school achieved full accreditation from the American Bar Association in 1937 and joined the Association of American Law Schools in 1973.

From its establishment, Brooklyn Law School has been committed to providing access to legal education for diverse populations, opening its doors to minorities, women, and immigrants, and offering night classes for those with full-time jobs. The school operates from its current location at 250 Joralemon Street in Downtown Brooklyn, near federal and state courts.
