Arkansas Seismological Observatory

Acts 1999, No. 1364, § 2.

(1) The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is directed to establish the Arkansas Seismological Observatory as a part of the Arkansas Center for Earthquake Education and Technology Transfer.

(2) The observatory shall: Monitor earthquake activity throughout the state;

(3) Assist in emergency planning and in providing early warning;

(4) Provide public education regarding earthquake hazards;

(5) Provide information useful for earthquake hazard mitigation;

(6) Provide the scientific community with relevant data;

(7) Provide real-time, immediate data regarding seismic activity to government agencies such as the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, the Arkansas Geological Survey, and critical facilities that operate in the region such as Arkansas Nuclear One, the National Center for Toxicological Research, and the Army Nerve Gas Facility; and

(8) Establish a collaborative relationship with St. Louis University and the University of Memphis in order to coordinate efforts and prevent duplication of effort.
