Trial Public Defender Office

Known as the Public Defender Act

The act spans §§ 16–16 (23 sections).

There is hereby created the Trial Public Defender Office within the Arkansas Public Defender Commission, to be composed as follows:

(1) The Trial Public Defender Office shall supervise the development and operations of each of the components of the Arkansas trial public defender system pursuant to the rules and standards for governing the system adopted by the commission;

(2) The Executive Director of the Arkansas Public Defender Commission shall appoint a defense services administrator.

(3) The administrator shall be chosen solely on the basis of training, experience, and other qualifications.

(4) The administrator need not be licensed to practice law; and

(5) The administrator may hire support staff and other personnel as necessary to properly discharge the duties assigned to the office to the extent allowed and as funds are appropriated by the General Assembly.
