Signature authority for advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants

Acts 2017, No. 372, § 1.

(1) When a provision of law or rule requires a signature, certification, stamp, verification, affidavit, or endorsement by a physician, the requirement may be fulfilled by an advanced practice registered nurse or a physician assistant in any of the following circumstances: Certification of disability for patients to receive disabled parking permits or placards from the Office of Motor Vehicle; or

(2) Signature for: Sports physicals to authorize student athletes to participate in athletic activities;

(3) Physicals for bus drivers;

(4) Forms relating to do-not-resuscitate orders;

(5) Forms excusing a potential jury member due to an illness;

(6) Death certificates;

(7) Workers' compensation forms;

(8) Forms relating to absenteeism for employment or school purposes; or

(9) Authorizations for durable medical equipment.

(10) This section does not expand the scope of practice of an advanced practice registered nurse or physician assistant.
