Ark. Code Ann. § 17-87-705

Scope of work

Acts 2005, No. 1423, § 4.

(1) A medication assistive person may perform the delegated nursing function of medication administration and related tasks in accordance with rules promulgated by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

(2) A medication assistive person shall perform medication administration and related tasks only: At a designated facility; and

(3) Under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

(4) Medication administration shall be limited to the administration of nonprescription and legend drugs ordered by an authorized prescriber by the following methods: Orally;

(5) Topically;

(6) Drops for eye, ear, or nose;

(7) Vaginally;

(8) Rectally;

(9) Transdermally; and

(10) Via oral inhaler.

(11) Medication administration by a medication assistive person shall not include controlled substances.

(12) A medication assistive person shall not: Receive, have access to, or administer any controlled substance;

(13) Administer parenteral, enteral, or injectable medications;

(14) Administer any substances by nasogastric or gastrostomy tubes;

(15) Calculate drug dosages;

(16) Destroy medication;

(17) Receive orders, either in writing or verbally, for new or changed medications;

(18) Transcribe orders from the medical record;

(19) Order initial medications;

(20) Evaluate medication error reports;

(21) Perform treatments;

(22) Conduct patient assessments or evaluations; or

(23) Engage in patient teaching activities.
