Ark. Code Ann. § 6-61-1105

Model programs

Acts 1997, No. 971, § 4.

(1) The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith shall seek a systemic change in the current higher education model by realigning its programs to a model that meets the needs of an information-driven and technology-driven era.

(2) Each educational program offered by the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, whether certificate, associate, or bachelor's degree, will have clearly defined expectations of learners in terms of knowledge, skills, competencies, and capacities for further learning.

(3) Certification of mastery, competency, and demonstrated capacities for individual graduates to customer standards will be required, as opposed to outcomes measured solely by the number of courses taken, seat time, and grade point average.

(4) Students will be actively involved in the learning process, with curricula designed around fewer lectures and with more responsibility placed on the learner and groups of learners.
