Household Hazardous Waste Management

Known as the California Integrated Waste Management Act

The act spans §§ 40000–49654 (1,051 sections).

Added by Stats. 1990, Ch. 35, Sec. 72

Any city or county may, upon a vote of the governing body of the city or county, authorize an increase in solid waste collection fees to offset the cost to the city or county of establishing, publicizing, and maintaining a household hazardous waste collection, recycling, and disposal program implemented pursuant to this article. Any increase in garbage collection fees authorized by this section shall be set at a level to bring in revenues not higher than is necessary to fund the reasonable cost of the household hazardous waste collection, recycling, and disposal program. Where an appropriately licensed private entity is utilized by a city or county, under a permit or existing franchise, to undertake a household hazardous waste collection, recycling, and disposal program, the costs of handling, hauling, and disposing of household hazardous wastes shall be paid through fees or rates charged for service.
