C.R.S. § 16-23-102

Legislative declaration

Known as the Katie’s Law

The act spans §§ 16–16 (5 sections).

(1) The general assembly hereby finds and declares that: (a) The collection and use of DNA by law enforcement agencies is a valuable tool in preventing crime; (b) The analysis of DNA has been used numerous times in the exoneration of innocent individuals charged with or convicted of crimes; and (c) The implementation of this article will result in preventing a significant number of violent crimes in Colorado and in solving a number of unsolved crimes in Colorado.
