As used in this part 2, unless the context otherwise requires: (1) “Committee” means the sickle-cell anemia advisory committee. (2) “Sickle-cell anemia” means an inherited blood disease caused by abnormal hemoglobin (oxygen-carrying pigment) in the red blood cells, causing the red blood cells to form a crescent or sickle shape when deprived of sufficient oxygen.
