Connecticut School Discipline Collaborative. Duties

Known as the Demonstration Scholarship Program Authorization Act

(a) The Department of Education's Connecticut School Discipline Collaborative shall advise the Commissioner of Education and the State Board of Education on strategies to reduce the overall and disproportionate use of out-of-school suspensions and expulsions.

(b) On and after October 1, 2023, the duties of the Connecticut School Discipline Collaborative shall include, but need not be limited to, (1) developing guidance to reduce the number of out-of-school suspensions and expulsions of students in grades preschool to two, inclusive, (2) providing evidence-based and developmentally appropriate definitions and examples of conduct that is of a violent or sexual nature in the context that such conduct may allow an out-of-school suspension of a student in grades preschool to two, inclusive, pursuant to subsection (g) of section 10-233c , and (3) recommending developmentally appropriate interventions for a student in grades preschool to two, inclusive, as an alternative to out-of-school suspension.
