Promotion of inmate work programs; safety signage

The department shall, to the extent possible and within existing resources, promote inmate work programs to the public which may include any or all of the following: signs clearly displayed which identify inmate work crews as inmates working in the community under the supervision of the department or another entity, signs clearly displayed on vehicles commonly utilized for the purpose of transporting inmate work crews working in the community, or signs clearly displayed by the supervising entity in public areas when inmate work crews are performing roadway maintenance or when safety signs are otherwise required. The department may also provide a uniform of distinctive design for inmate work crews in the community, including work crews under the supervision of another entity.
