Grants for passenger security

The Department may make grants from the Transportation Fund and the General Revenue Fund to the Regional Transportation Authority created under the Regional Transportation Authority Act to be used to provide protection against crime for the consumers of public transportation, and for the employees and facilities of public transportation providers, in the metropolitan region. The grants may be used (1) to provide that protection directly, or (2) to contract with any municipality or county in the metropolitan region to provide that protection, or (3) except for the Chicago Transit Authority created under the Metropolitan Transit Authority Act, to contract with a private security agency to provide that protection. The grants shall be made upon the terms and conditions that in the judgment of the Secretary are necessary to ensure their proper and effective utilization. The procedures provided in Section 2705-305 to govern grants for mass transportation shall apply to grants made under this Section. (Text of Section after amendment by P.A. 104-457) Sec. 2705-315.
