Exemptions

Known as the Hearing Instrument Consumer Protection Act

The act spans §§ 225-50-1 to 225-50-9-5 (40 sections).

(a) The following are exempt from this Act: (1) Licensed physicians. This exemption, however, does not apply to a physician's employee or subcontractor who is not a physician. (2) Persons who only repair or manufacture hearing instruments and their accessories for wholesale. (b) Audiometers used by persons exempt from this Act to dispense hearing instruments must meet the annual calibration requirements and current standards set by the American National Standards Institute. (c) Audiologists licensed under the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act are exempt from licensure under this Act, but are otherwise subject to the practices and provisions of this Act. (d) Hearing aid technicians are exempt from licensure under this Act but are otherwise subject to the practices and provisions of this Act.
