5 ILCS 615/6

Permits shall require the immediate commencement of geological, geophysical or core drilling operation thereunder

Known as the Oil and Gas Wells on Public Lands Act

All operations shall be prosecuted with reasonable diligence in accordance with good oil field practice, and shall be continuous except when causes beyond the control of the permittee intervene and render continuous operations not feasible. In no case shall such geological, geophysical or core drilling operations include the actual operation of drilling for gas, oil or other mineral deposits.
