65 ILCS 5/11-36-2

Every person specified in Section 11-36-1 shall apply to the board of examiners provided by Section 11-36-3 and, at such time and place as the board may designate, must pass such an examination as to his qualifications as the board may direct

This examination may be wholly or partly written. It shall be of a practical and elementary character but it shall be sufficiently strict to test his qualifications.
