Known as the Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act

The coordinator by interagency contract may provide grants to state institutions of higher education for research, testing, and development of discharge prevention and response technology; discharge response training; wildlife and natural resources protection, rescue, and rehabilitation; development of computer models to predict the movements and impacts of discharges; and other purposes consistent with and in furtherance of the purposes of this Chapter. Contracts or agreements relating to wildlife, aquatic resources, and habitats under the jurisdiction of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries shall be made in coordination with that department. Contracts or agreements relating to wetlands and coastal resources under the jurisdiction of the Department of Conservation and Energy shall be made in coordination with that department. To the greatest extent possible, contracts shall be coordinated with studies being done by other state agencies, the federal government, or private industry to minimize duplication of efforts.
