Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 140, § 87

Inspection of record book; exhibition of property

Said book shall at all times be open to the inspection of the police commissioner and of the superintendent and chief inspector of police of Boston, of the colonel of the state police, and of the chief of police and selectmen of their respective cities or towns, or of an officer specially authorized by any of them in writing for that purpose, who exhibits such written authority; and the property described in said book shall on demand be exhibited to said officers.
