Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 147, § 16B

Days off for police; one day out of six

Except in Boston, members of the police department of every town which accepts this section by vote of its city council in case of a city or of the town, in case of a town, whether or not section fourteen, fifteen, sixteen or sixteen A has theretofore been operative therein, shall be excused from duty for one day out of every six without loss of pay.
