A corporation organized under this chapter for medical purposes shall not confer degrees, or issue diplomas or certificates conferring or purporting to confer degrees, unless specially authorized thereto by the general court. An officer, agent or servant of such corporation or any other person who confers degrees, or signs, issues or authorizes the signing or issuing of any diploma or certificate purporting to confer any degree of medicine or surgery, in violation hereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than five hundred nor more than one thousand dollars.
