Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 215, § 59

Sessions of the courts; adjournment

A judge of a probate court may adjourn court as occasion requires; and if he is absent at the time appointed for holding court, the register shall adjourn it as he may consider necessary or as the judge may order. The register may also adjourn court when the office of judge is vacant.
