Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 218, § 34

Arrest without warrant; endorsement of complaint by arresting officer

Said courts may dispense with the issuing of a warrant if the person charged with a crime has been arrested without a warrant and brought before the court or admitted to bail; but in such case the officer making the arrest shall endorse upon the complaint a statement of his doings.
