Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 262, § 13

Precepts for elections; subpoenas of general court; service

Sheriffs and other officers shall be paid by the commonwealth, for serving precepts for the election of representatives in congress, fifty cents each, and for the service of subpoenas issued by order of the general court or either branch thereof the same fees as are allowed for the service of subpoenas issued by a court.
