Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 68, § 4

Corporate bodies, trustees as

Churches or religious societies may appoint trustees, not exceeding five, who shall with their successors be a body corporate, for the purposes mentioned in section one, and shall be subject to the provisions of this chapter applicable thereto.
