Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 94, § 238

Weighers of coal

The mayor or selectmen shall annually appoint, and may remove, weighers of coal, one of whom at least shall not be engaged in the business of selling coal, who shall be sworn to the faithful performance of their duty, and by whom all coal shall be weighed. No person shall be ineligible for appointment in a town because of the fact that he is not a resident thereof, notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary in any city charter. Women shall be eligible for appointment as weighers of coal.
