Workable program

PL 1987, c. 737, §§A2,C106 (NEW)

1. Goals of program. For the purposes of this chapter, the authority may formulate for the municipality a workable program for using appropriate private and public resources to:

A. Eliminate and prevent the development or spread of slums and urban blight;

B. Encourage needed urban rehabilitation;

C. Provide for the redevelopment of slum and blighted areas; or

D. Undertake any of these activities or other feasible municipal activities that are suitably employed to achieve the objectives of the workable program.

2. Provisions of program. The workable program may provide for, but is not limited to:

A. The prevention of the spread of blight into areas of the municipality which are free from blight through the diligent enforcement of housing, zoning and occupancy controls and standards;

B. The clearance and redevelopment of slum and blighted areas or portions of those areas; and

C. The rehabilitation or conservation of slum and blighted areas or portions of those areas by:

(1) Replanning, removing congestion, providing parks, playgrounds and other public improvements;

(2) Encouraging voluntary rehabilitation; and

(3) Compelling the repair and rehabilitation of deteriorated or deteriorating structures.
