Me. Rev. Stat. tit. 7, § 2804

Qualified part-time bee inspectors shall be employed on a per diem basis and shall receive necessary traveling expenses while actually engaged in the performance of their duties. A part-time bee inspector shall serve during the pleasure of the commissioner.
